Community partnership advances childhood literacy
The Reston Historic Trust & Museum is pleased to announce the publication of Reston Baby, a board book for parents and children about life in Reston, VA that will be gifted to all babies born at Reston Hospital Center. The bilingual book helps parents provide their children with a head start to childhood literacy.
Reston Baby is illustrated by Molly Bergin. This whimsical book introduces children to the wonderful diversity of people they’ll meet in Reston and all of the things they can do to live, work and play in their community.
The book will also be available for purchase at the Reston Museum’s online and in-store gift shop. A pamphlet that introduces parents to the importance of reading is also included with each book.
Alexandra Campbell, Executive Director of the Reston Historic Trust & Museum says “Reston Baby is a wonderful book made by and for the community. For the newborns receiving this book, we hope it inspires a love of reading and creates curiosity about the unique place where they were born.”
This program has been made possible by Reston Community Center, Reston Town Center Association, Reston Association, Friends of Reston, Friends of Reston Regional Library, Reston Historic Trust & Museum, Reston Hospital, and Bright Pond Marketing.

About Reston Reads
Reston Reads committee was founded in April 2020 by Dr. Elizabeth English to help parents provide their children with a head start to childhood literacy. Research suggests that future achievement and success in school is highly linked to being able to read as a child. The Reston Baby board book, Reston Reads signature project, is being released June 3, 2021.
