Reston Museum Presents Founder’s Day

Reston Museum Presents Founder’s Day

April 15, 2023 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join Reston Museum for the annual Founder’s Day celebration on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lake Anne Plaza. Founder’s Day celebrates Reston’s founding and founder Robert E. Simon, Jr. with the community coming together to celebrate with performances, cake, activities, and music.

The celebration will kick off with a community clean up. April is earth and volunteer month and what better way to give back to the environment than a community cleanup. Those wishing to participate should meet up at Bronze Bob at the Volunteer Reston table and will be directed to clean up areas on nearby Reston Association paths. When you’re done, take a selfie with the sculpture of Simon #selfiewithbob.

Be the first to contribute art to Reston Museum’s Free Little Art Gallery! Bring art to display or participate in Public Art Reston’s free art activity to create your own art. A ribbon cutting ceremony by local officials will take place at 12:30 pm on the Washington Plaza Baptist Church steps and then the gallery will be installed in its permanent home at the museum.

After the ribbon cutting, enjoy performances by Foley Academy of Irish Dance, Adrenaline Dance Studio, South Lakes High School Theater, Reston Community Players, and Langston Hughes Middle School Choir, and more. Special Exhibits include youth art created by Reston students, and Teetotalers & Moonshiners: Prohibition in Virginia, Distilled on loan from the Library of Virginia at Reston Museum and artwork by the Reston League of Artists at Reston Community Center.

Throughout the day attendees can enjoy food from local food trucks, participate in children’s art activities offered by Public Art Reston, and enjoy exhibits of art and history at Reston Museum and the Reston Community Center’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery.

Enjoy cake while meeting local authors Rebecca Green, Shelley Mastran, and Cheryl Terio-Simon in Reston Community Center’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery. Rebecca Green will read Explore Virginia with Me! and children can participate in her related craft activity.

A raffle of Lake Anne centered gift baskets will be held at the Reston Museum. All proceeds will support Reston Museum’s children events and programming.

Founder’s Day is presented by Reston Museum and Reston Community Center and co-sponsored by Public Art Reston and hosted by Lake Anne Plaza. Community Cleanup managed by Volunteer Reston. Washington Plaza Baptist Church assisted with performance staging area.

A full program will be made available closer to the date online at UPCOMING EVENTS & PROGRAMS | Reston Museum
