Letter from the Publisher

It’s spring and it’s about time. I’ve lived here many years, and I don’t remember a spring like the one we just had. But now cafés are opening, Cirque du Soleil is live and things are gearing up for what we hope will be a super year.

We attended the opening of the new (and impressive) Aperture apartments, grabbed a bite at the new Founding Farmers and caught a glimpse of the new Reston. Wow, Robert would be amazed.

The folks at the Reston Community Center has a great line-up of free summer fun from “Take a Break” morning concerts to “Summerbrations” in the Plaza and so much more.

Learn all about the 27th Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival presented by the Greater Reston Arts Center. Now expanded to three days.

And speaking of festivals, Dani has put together a list of Summer Festivals—from BBQ Battles, to Country Music and Arts and Crafts to Regional Camping Festivals. Something for just about anyone. Thanks, Dani.

Don’t forget the Wine! Linda has us covered with some Wine Celebration options.

I can never get enough of Dining Al Fresco, and as I write this note, the restaurants’ outdoor venues are in full swing and the laughter’s flowing. Dani Keating put together a list of places you may want to consider for that meal in the sun or under the stars.

If you’re considering some home improvements this year, please take time to browse the many great names in Home Remodeling and Repairs.

Our beauty editors bring you some tips and thoughts on everything from permanent makeup to getting your tan on.

Also we have included a “look back” at the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project by Amanda Scarangella. Things move fast. It’s becoming difficult to remember how things were just a few years ago.

Take the time to look around every now and then to capture the skyline in our town today, it is forever changing, but even with those changes, to quote Delegate Ken Plum, “There’s no place like home in Reston.” Have a great early summer and we’ll see you in July.
