Friends of Reston’s Camp Scholarship Campaign is Underway

Annual fundraising by Friends of Reston helps send children to Reston Camps

Friends of Reston’s annual fundraising campaign is underway with a goal of $15,000 to send economically disadvantaged children to Reston Association camps this summer. Everyone who can make a financial contribution to the campaign can donate online or by check to the Friends of Reston Camp Scholarship Fund. Each child accepted into the Reston Camps scholarship program receives tuition, tee shirts, and transportation.

Each year, the volunteer board of directors of Friends of Reston (FOR) builds this scholarship fund with contributions of all sizes, from $10 to $2,000 and more, donated by individuals and businesses in Reston and beyond. Over the past 20 years FOR has provided funding for hundreds of children to attend Reston Camps, following the resolve of Reston founder, Bob Simon, that every child should have this advantage.

“This year, more than ever, children need the opportunity to meet new friends, explore their community, and have fun while learning new skills – Reston Camps provides this, and more,” stated FOR’s Executive Director, Kia Cole-Hines. “FOR is grateful for all the donors who make this possible for children whose families are unable to afford this experience.”

Red’s Table, the iconic Reston restaurant located at South Lakes Village Center, has stepped up with a campaign to support FOR’s fundraising. From now through July, diners at Red’s Table can contribute to the Friends of Reston Camp Scholarship Fund by rounding up their payment for meals. “We are proud to support this campaign and hope Red’s Table can provide a significant contribution with the help of our customers,” stated Ryan Tracy, owner of Red’s Table. “As native Restonians, we’re very aware of the benefits of RA’s Reston Camps and want to help with making it possible for children in need through the Friends of Reston Scholarship Fund.”

Donations to the Friends of Reston Camp Scholarship Fund can be made:

  • Online at www.friendsofreston.org with credit card, designating “Camp Scholarships” in the payment notes.
  • By mail with a check payable to Friends of Reston, 11450 Glade Drive, Reston, VA 20191. Note “Camp Scholarships” on the memo line.
