Generally, when I am meeting a client or discussing a campaign with a potential client, I will ask the client to pick a place to meet, hoping they will feel more comfortable. Recently, it seems the meetings are taking place at new spots like Cooper’s Hawk and restaurants like Kalypso’s and Not Your Average Joe’s.
Last week, I had a chance to enjoy a late lunch at a favorite spot of mine in the Reston Town Center. I have always enjoyed the Town Center….spent many New Year’s celebrations there, shopped there for the holidays, and just walking around with the family is a treat. I was shocked to find so few people at the restaurant. I knew that the pay parking was affecting business, but this was more than I imagined. How sad. Even though a few establishments are providing parking for clients, I imagine that the word hadn’t gone out because the foot traffic was so light. I wondered as I ate whether perhaps this holiday season, when so many merchants are looking to make ends meet, if there might be some sort of “Free Holiday Parking” offering to bring back the shoppers and diners. It would be helpful, I’m sure.
On the bright side, as we go to bed with this issue, we hear that Herndon is a very strong contender for Amazon’s East Coast Headquarters with the promise of up to 50,000 new jobs for the area. Stay tuned.

I spent some time with Gwyn Whittaker of Greenfare in Herndon earlier this month—she’s on a mission to optimize your health and well-being. It’s exciting stuff and making a big difference in so many lives in our area. While reading about her work, I came across a video with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn who ended it with an old Tibetan proverb which reads: “Eat Half, Walk Double, Laugh Triple and Love without Measure”—a great plan for the New Year.
