Reston Community Center is teaming up with community partners Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, Reston Association and Cornerstones to help local families during November. People who can give non-perishable food, gift cards, toiletries or other items are encouraged to participate in the “Stuff the RA Camp Van” events on upcoming weekends and the Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive through November 23.
RCC and its community partners have collection boxes at RCC facilities, the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and a variety of other drop-off points throughout the community. Patrons, businesses and organizations are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food and other items. Gift cards are an especially convenient and useful item to donate.
New to this year’s food drive, community partners will also hold two “Stuff the RA Camp Van” events this month, encouraging people to bring non-perishable food and other items to the RA Camp Van at these places and times:
- Saturday, November 7, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the SunTrust Bank parking lot at South Lakes Village Center.
- Saturday, November 14, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. next to the BB&T Bank at North Point Village Center.
“The impact of COVID-19 has been profound, and the challenges faced by families struggling to meet their commitments during the pandemic are enormous,” notes RCC Executive Director Leila Gordon. “We know that keeping our community strong and safe depends on the generosity of those who have the ability to give. We are very grateful for all the support people can offer.” To see the drop-off points, please visit RCC’s website.
RCC is also seeking Volunteer Loaders on November 24 or 25 and Volunteer Food Sorters on November 26 or 27. Visit RCC’s Thanksgiving Food Drive Volunteer Page for more information and learn now to register for these great community service opportunities. These events will be held with social distancing, mask-wearing and a smaller group size in accordance with public health guidelines. Capacity is limited so please register early.
