Kalypso’s Sports Tavern: The ultimate destination for catering and parties!

Celebrating seven years at its lake-front location at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, Kalypso’s Sports Tavern has become a favorite spot for adults and families to enjoy great food, music, sports, and beautiful lake views.

Vicky Hadjikyriakou, co-owner of Kalypso’s with her husband George, said that the restaurant is also offering offsite catering in Reston and in communities in a radius of 10 miles.

“I can do anything from heavy hors d‘oeuvres to a full sit-down dinner for a party offsite,” she said.

Party hosts can choose from hand-held appetizers like spanakopita, chicken wings, kabobs, gyros, sliders, dips, or sandwiches, among others, to a whole meal, including Mediterranean dishes with chicken, lamb, seafood, fish, pasta, salads, and more.

“I’ve done my lamb Klefttiko for an offsite party. It’s slow-cooked lamb in parchment paper.”

The catering menu with prices can be found online at www.kalypsossportstavern.com. However, party hosts are not limited to this selection. They can also choose from the full restaurant menu.

“I can set up special pricing, and we can cater to specific needs—the drinks, the food, everything,” added Vicky.

For onsite parties, Kalypso’s easily can accommodate parties of up to 300 people inside and on the patio, weather permitting.

“My capacity inside is 165, and outside I can seat 150 people,” she said. “We have the venue for onsite gatherings such as company happy hours and special events, including graduations, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, and weddings.”

Kalypso’s is furnished with doors that separate the sports bar from the rest of the restaurant. There is a lounge, the dining room, a sports bar, and the patio. Each section is equipped with a separate TV and sound system, so that when the doors are closed, people can bring their own iPod and play their own music in their party room.

“We can also do slide shows or video presentations on the TV screens,” explained Vicky.

Parties at Kalypso’s not only have a great selection of food, but they may also include live music.

“We host bands on Friday night and a lot of different parties that we host, such as birthday parties or weddings, incorporate the live music into their party, too.”

Holiday Events and Football Season at Kalypso’s

“We are gearing up for Christmas, so we are already taking reservations for corporate Christmas parties, or we can cater at [interested companies] offices,” said Vicky.

The restaurant is open on Christmas Eve during the day, on Christmas Day in the evening, and all day on New Year’s Eve.

“I host a big party here, with no cover, on New Year’s Eve. I provide the DJ and complimentary party favors with a countdown at midnight,” she said. “On Thanksgiving, I’ll be open in the evening because there’s a Redskins game that night.”

On a regular day, Kalypso’s is open until 2:00 a.m.

“We are very excited for the football season to start on September 7. Every team fan is welcome here. We have a unique setup in our lounge because we can show a different game on each TV,” she said. “I have a new system too, so wherever you sit, I can switch the TV channel to the game you want.”

During football season, Kalypso’s offers game-day specials, like its famous “50-cent wings” as well as a special menu with finger foods to enjoy the game.

Lake Anne Events

On Saturday, October 28, the Lake Anne Merchants Committee is hosting “Boos and Brews” during the day, an event for the whole family. That night, Kalypso’s is continuing the party for adults-only; Kalypso’s Annual Halloween Party will start at 9:30 p.m. with a DJ, and they will offer goodies for costumers wearing a costume, as well as the opportunity to win a prize for best costume. First prize is $200, second prize is $100, and third prize is $50.

Other events at Lake Anne Plaza include the Multicultural Festival on September 23; Plein Air Event, from September 29 to October 1; Small Business Saturday on November 25; and Jingle on the Lake on December 2.

Seven Years Delivering Great Food and Ambiance

After seven years, Vicky only has words of gratitude to all her costumers: “We are very fortunate to have a loyal clientele who supports our business even during winter time, because the challenge of Lake Anne is the winter season,” she said.

“I feel that when we first opened, many people, even Reston residents, didn’t know we were here, and I think we have done a good job of promoting ourselves. People like Lake Anne—and we have one of the most beautiful lake views in Northern Virginia. Parking is also free in our commercial parking lot, as well as along North Shore Drive,” said Vicky.
