This September 16, 2017, Public Art Reston will host, in partnership with Reston Town Center, its fourth annual chalk festival, ChalkFest at Reston Town Center. This community-building event invites artists of all skill levels to participate in this temporary street art festival. Participants can register in three categories including Families/Kids, Amateur Artists, and Professional Artists, and prizes are awarded in each category as well an Audience Choice Award. The event will take place on Market Street in Reston Town Center in front of the Pavilion from 8 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday. Professional Artists are invited to start their drawing on Friday, September 15, beginning at 12 pm. Saturday’s event will be open to all categories.
Judging will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday and winners will be announced at around 5:00 pm. There will also be small street music acts throughout the day.
“ChalkFest was an exciting and unique experience for me.” Says Brianna Camp, one of last year’s winners in the category of Professional Artists. “It was one of my first opportunities to work on a large scale, which was really fun and taught me a lot artistically. My favorite part of the event was the atmosphere. It was so cool to get feedback from so many people, especially while I worked in real time. I was amazed by the other artists work in every category from elementary school to professional. I left feeling really inspired. “
Public Art Reston will host a Chalk Workshop in front of the Mercury Fountain at Reston Town Center on Saturday, September 9 from 11 am to 1 pm led by last year’s First Place prizewinner in the category of Professional Artist, Penny Hauffe. This event is free and open to all.
“We are very excited to bring ChalkFest back to Reston Town Center for a fourth year.” Says Anne Delaney, Executive Director for Public Art Reston. “Each year, we are more and more impressed by the artistic talent this community has to offer at all age levels. It has continued to be a wonderful community-building experience and a great way to create greater awareness about the organization’s work and public art in Reston.”
