Pink & Green - a party and silent auction benefiting girls on the run of NOVA

Pink & Green Party to benefit Girls on The Run, NOVA this October 13

The inaugural Pink & Green Party will take place on October 13th, 2016 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM in Mclean. The Pink & Green Party is organized through volunteer efforts where the net proceeds of the Party will solely benefit Girls on the Run of NOVA (GOTR NOVA).

The Pink & Green Party will raise funds through ticket sales, sponsorship and auction item donations. Be sure to check out the silent auction and bid on a weekend getaway to a private lake house, dinner for four at Zatinya by José Andrés, four Diamond Club tickets to a Washington Nationals game, among many other wonderful items.

The highlight of the night will be the keynote speaker, Kathrine Switzer. Kathrine is an iconic athlete, sports and social advocate, author, and Emmy award-winning television commentator. Kathrine was the first woman to officially enter and run the Boston Marathon. She has been honored widely for her achievements, including being inducted into the U.S.A National Women’s Hall of Fame for creating positive social change. The ramifications of her work are both joyful and profound, changing forever the face of sports, health, and opportunities for women around the world.

“It’s such an honor to be here in helping the young girls of Girls On The Run of NOVA,” said Kathrine Switzer, “and it’s particularly special to me because I was raised in Fairfax County! I was just the age of some of these girls when my Dad encouraged me to run. Running gave me self-esteem even then, but I sure wish I’d had a program like GOTR, because this organization helps these girls onto a strong path to the future. Running made all the difference in my life and I want to help pass this on to every young girl in the world.”
Prior to start of the Pink & Green Party, Kathrine Switzer will join a GOTR NOVA team at a Fairfax County school site. Kathrine will participate in the practice with the girls and speak with them about her experiences as a woman gaining leadership skills and strength of character through running and sport.

“We are truly excited to have Kathrine connecting with our participants in Northern Virginia,” said Katey Comerford, GOTR NOVA Executive Director. “Katherine’s continuous promotion of women’s leadership and opportunity will leave a resounding impression on these young women, giving them the confidence to be fearless.”
