Cornerstones to host 2019 Hunter Mill District Candidates Forum on Affordable Housing

We are experiencing a housing affordability crisis in Fairfax County. According to Zillow, the average rent for a two bedroom apartment in Fairfax County is $2,300/month and the average home purchase price is $548,800. Fairfax County’s Communitywide Strategic Plan reports that over 44% of renters and 22% of homeowners are spending more than 30% of their income on housing. Fairfax County residents are finding themselves rent-burdened, homeless, or forced to leave due to the high cost of housing.

On Monday, May 13 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, Cornerstones will host a forum for the candidates running for Hunter Mill District Supervisor. The forum will be held at Heritage Fellowship Church (2501 Fox Mill Road, Reston, VA 20191). Questions for the candidates will focus on affordable housing and economic development in Fairfax County, specifically in the Hunter Mill district.

The question and answer portion of the forum will be held from 7:00pm-8:30pm immediately followed by a meet and greet reception with the candidates from 8:30pm-9:00pm. The forum will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Debra Haffner of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston. Questions will be asked by a panel of business and community leaders.

The event is free. Please visit www.cornerstonesva.org to register.

Hunter Mill district residents are encouraged to share their questions for the candidates about affordable housing. Questions for the candidates will be preselected from those submitted by the public prior to the event. To submit your question, email forum2019@cornerstonesva.org. You do not have to attend the forum to submit a question.
