Amazon Employee Matching Gift Program to Benefit Cornerstones

Cornerstones is one of only 10 local nonprofits included in $5 million national employee contribution initiative

For almost 50 years, Cornerstones has partnered with a growing network of corporate leaders to ensure that our region remains a vibrant and healthy place to live and work. As community catalysts, we are united in our vision to disrupt the root causes of homelessness, poverty, and inequality that currently affect our region’s most vulnerable families, children, and seniors.

Recently, Amazon announced a major employee matching gift program that gives Cornerstones the opportunity to greatly expand its impact and community engagement. Our vanguard nonprofit was named one of only 10 local nonprofits benefiting from Amazon’s new community give-back initiative. Through September 30, 2019, the company is set to match one-for-one employee donations up to $5 million collectively.

“This is an extraordinary new opportunity to help every Amazon employee fulfill their vision for investing in the strength and stability of our community,” offered Kerrie Wilson, CEO of Cornerstones. “Cornerstones benefits from the time and talents of more than 6,000 volunteers each year– many from businesses committed to making a difference, and who have encouraged and supported their employees in volunteering in the community. Many of these companies support employees’ philanthropy by matching their gifts. We are honored to be chosen for Amazon’s pilot program and grateful for the local Amazon team members who volunteer and support our mission.”

With deep roots in the Dulles corridor, Cornerstones works to ensure individuals and families suffering from homelessness, isolation, or living in poverty can access resources that offer stability, empowerment and hope for healthy and connected lives. While the Northern Virginia economy continues to improve, more than 16,900 individuals, including 3,828 families with 6,499 children – just this past year alone – suffered from crippling poverty resulting in food insecurity, housing instability, lack of medical care, and unhealthy living conditions. Cornerstones signature approach – working in purposeful and targeted partnerships – is reflected in this opportunity.

“Today’s announcement prominently demonstrates Amazon’s commitment to our mission and how Cornerstones’ successfully brings together people and strategies from multiple sectors to harness and target expertise and resources for greater community well-being,” Wilson noted.
