A retrospective exhibit of more than fifty (50) original paintings by Reston-based painter Sandra C Dovberg will be shown in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery at Reston Community Center–Lake Anne, open every day from Tuesday, June 28 through Sunday, July 24 during the center’s hours of operation.
Dovberg’s solo exhibit, “Memory and Illusion,” is a highly eclectic collection of paintings that show the versatility of the artist who is also an award-winning silversmith and jewelry designer. Her painting styles range from representational to abstract produced with acrylics, watercolors, oil, pastels, and mixed media in a wide range of subject matter and sizes. This collection of works is a rare opportunity to experience the broadness and depth of Dovberg’s opus demonstrating the evolution of her style from pure abstraction to abstracted realism featuring her vibrant yet delicate palette. Sometimes dramatic, sometimes conceptual, sometimes fantastical, sometimes whimsical and humorous, Dovberg’s intent is to inspire a genuine emotional connection to the subject matter and to simultaneously provide a glimpse into her perceptions and reactions to the world while stimulating viewers to explore their own.
Everyone is welcome to an informal reception to meet the artist at the gallery on Sunday, July 10 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. The exhibit is free to view, located at Jo Ann Rose Gallery, Reston Community Center–Lake Anne, 1609-A Washington Plaza, Reston, VA 20190. About Sandra C Dovberg
Sandra C Dovberg graduated from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY with a degree in studio art with a focus on metal smithing and jewelry design. She worked under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed painter, sculptor and jewelry designer, Earl Pardon, whose painterly metal enamel masterpieces inspired her sense of color and design that has been described as “muscular femininity.” Even before her graduation, one of her bracelets was accepted in the prestigious “Young Americans” exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City. A large abstract metal sculpture created by Dovberg was selected for permanent display by the college upon her graduation.
